Ceramics
While learning the movement of clay, and fickleness of the process of creating ceramic pieces, my love has grown with this medium. Every scale and marking puts me into a place of calm as I focus on creating without destroying in the development.Through the thick earthy qualities of the clay, I have made objects that stray as far away from this as possible. Turning the slab into thin curving snakes, as well as delicate claws.
After making a piece it goes through different stages, from the drying stage, to bisque firing and then glazing, to the last fire. These stages are never certain and works have the ability to change throughout the process, getting to the last stage and getting a work from the kiln is exhilarating. From such a fragile start, to now being a fully realised ceramic creation, learning what works and what needs to be re-visited again.
